LAKE KATWE

Lake Katwe

Lake Katwe is known throughout Uganda and the East African region for its substantial salt production and has been producing high quality salt for many years. The lake is fed by numerous springs around its shores which have a total flow of about 600 m 3 per day . These springs are saline or brackish and bring about 1500 tons of salts per year to the lake. It is likely that they are the main source of salts in the lake. As the lake has no outlet, the water level in the lake is determined .
